William Kelly White b. on January 21, 1916. Enlisted on Jun 5, 1943 at 27 years old in Huntington, WV
as Sargent in US Army Air Force, 722 Comb. Sq., 450th Bomb Gp, 15th AF . He was a Tail gunner on Flak
Magnet 42-94984 Macr 6366, stationed at Manduria Air Base, Italy. On June 24, 1944 He said his turret
had been hit by flak, his turret had been set a fire as well as himself by incendiaries, he got out of
his turret to put the fire out on himself also the one in the turret. He had reached back into the turret
to fire some more and he had been hit again. The waist Gunner examined the body in flight and reported a
number of wounds from gun fire (wounds were found in his stomach, chest and head). His turret was shot
away and half of his head and face were gone and also blood over his body, because of being hit with
rocket from a german plane. He was lying next to the tail turret after the ship crashed. He was buried
with two other boys on the farmers land that the ship crashed on. The B24 Flak Magnet 42-94984 at 9:35 AM
it broke out in flames in the nose portion of the fuselage. Soon after the ship left formation and exploded
and crashed approximately 9:40 AM in a large wheat field near Buzau, Romania. approximatly three miles from
the above town. Before he went into the service, he was working security at a defense plant near Point Pleasant WV.
He was 28 years old when he died.
