William Nicholas Meriwether b. on May 12, 1840 in Bedford County, Va. Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1864. In April 1861 left on guard detail at VMI. On May 14, 1861 promoted to Cpl of Cadets. On June 26, 1861 resigned. Enlisted on July 27, 1861 elected 1st Lt of Co. C, 58th Va Infantry. Detailed as Drillmaster & in Capt Jenkins Cavalry in Richmond, Va. On May 1, 1862 dropped. Remained with regt until fall of 1863. On Sept 1, 1863 elected 2nd Lt of Co. C, 21st Va Cavalry. In Jan-Feb 1865 in hosp. In Aug 5, 1918 he died in Eolia, Pike County, MO. Buried in Old Prairieville Cemetery, Eolia, Pike Co, MO.
