  COUSINS


  Cadet John Thompson Coleman* b. in 1845 Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1866. On Jan. 30, 1862 he Entered VMI. On July 4, 1863 Resigned because of academic deficiencies. On Aug. 22, 1863 Re-admitted, but had to repeat 4th Class (Freshman) year. Resigned again sometime before 1864. Military Record: No known service. Unofficial source indicates he was incapacitated for military service by an accident. On March 12, 1876 he died.

  Cadet Matthew Maury Corbin Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1894.

  Cadet Cadet George Mason Lee b. on August 03, 1877. Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1897. Lt. Col. United States Army. 1st. He was also the Lt. 7th. Cavalry. On October 15, 1934 he died in Fort Riley, Kanas.

  Cadet Fitzhugh Lee b. on June 6, 1875 in Alexandria, Va, Va. Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1896. On Sept 3, 1892 Entered VMI. On Sept 6, 1894 Resigned. Col. U.S. Cavalry in World War I. Col. Cavalry, R.O.T.C. Instructor at Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana. In 1939 Retired from U.S. Army. On Nov 12, 1954 he died in Tucson, Az.

  Cadet Sydney Smith Lee b. on March 13, 1881 in Stafford Co, Va. Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1903 Colonel U. S. Marine Corp. On November 23, 1963 he died in Daytona Beach, Fla.

  Cadet Duncan Freeland Lewis b. in 1876 in Richmond, Va. Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1896 In 1914 he died.

  Cadet Henry Llewellyn Daingerfield Lewis Jr b. in 1877. Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1898.

  Cadet Edward Parke Custis Lewis b. in 1879. Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1899.

  Cadet John Redman Coxe Lewis b. in 1870 in Richmond, Va. Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1891. In 1905 he died.

  Cadet Stuart Bradford Marshall b. Abt. 1872. Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1894.

  Cadet George Catlett Marshall Jr b. on December 31, 1880 in Uniontown, Fayette County, PA. Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1901. First Captain, the highest ranking cadet. He entered the U. S. Army. His military career culminated in his appointment as Army Chief of Staff in 1939. He served in this vital position throughout World War II, and Winston Churchill referred to him as "the organizer of the Allied victory." Although he retired from the Army in 1945. On December 16, 1959 he died in Walter reed Hospital, Washington, D.C. Buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Fairfax County, Va.

  Cadet George Smith Patton Jr b. on November 30, 1856 in Charleston, VA. Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1877. After graduation taught at VMI for one year; studied law and became a prominent attorney in Los Angeles, where he was also active in politics.

  Cadet George Smith Patton III b. on November 11, 1885 in San Gabriel, CA. Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1907. From the basic level of the Tank School of the American Expeditionary Forces in World War I to the vast armored formations of the 3rd Army that slashed across Europe in World War II, armored warfare owes a debt to General Patton. On December 21, 1945 he died in a car accident in Heidelberg, Germany. Buried in Hamm, Luxembourg "among those who died at the Battle of the Bulge".

  Cadet Beauford Norborne Taliaferro b. on January 19, 1900 in Madill, OK. Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1922. (non-graduate). On February 26, 1968 he died in Madill, OK.

  Cadet Warner Throckmorton Taliaferro b. on December 28, 1874 in Norfolk, Va. Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1894. On Sept 16, 1890 Entered VMI. On September 25, 1890 died from injuries incurred in a fist fight with another cadet "Cadet Frank W. McConnico".

  Cadet William Hamilton Taliaferro b. on September 27, 1847. Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1868.

  Cadet Thomas Hardy Taliaferro b. on March 22, 1871 in Jacksonville, Fla. Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1890. On Sept 9, 1886 Entered VMI. On June 26, 1890 he graduated standing 1st in a class of 25. Recipient of 1890 Jackson-Hope Medal. Careers: Asst. Professor of Math, Tactics and Drawing at VMI 1890-91; Instructor at the Missouri Military Academy; Instructor at Penn State College; Received Ph.D. from Hopkins University; President of Florida A & M College and University of Florida; Dean of Engineering College; Dean of Arts & Sciences at University of Maryland.

  Cadet Anthony Barclay Taliaferro Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1906.
