Varland Hamilton b. May 1837 in Nelson Co, VA. on May 1, 1861 at Massie Mill. On May 20, 1861 mustered in at Charlottesville into the Nelson Grays Co. G, 19th Va Infantry age of 24 years old. On June 1862 promoted to 2nd Corporal. On June 27, 1862 he was wounded in the battle of Gaines' Mill and was admitted to Charlottesville Hospital. On Sept 3, 1862 gunshot wound to his hand. In Aug 1863 2nd Corporal to Pvt. Prior to Aug 1863 he return to Co, G 19th Va Infantry. Present through Aug 1864 last roll. He was at the R. E. Lee Camp Confederate Soldier's Home, Richmond, VA. On Sept 29, 1909 he died at the age of 71 and is buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond VA. (Brother of Robert Lewis Hamilton, John Edward Hamilton, My 2nd geat-grandmother Willianna R. Hamilton "Willie Ann Hamilton" and two other sisters.
