Thomas Jefferson Moncure b. on November 12, 1832. Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1853. In May 1861 wrote that as former state Cadet felt duty bound to serve in defense of state. In spring of 1862 Major of 179th Va Militia. Detailed to command militia at Camp Lee. In Jun 1862 Major and enrolling Officer for city of Richmond, Va. On April 6, 1864 apntd 1st Lt of Co. H, 1st CS Engr. In spring-summer of 1864 on special duty with McLaw's Div. Directed countermining efforts before the explosion of the Crater at Petersburg, Va. Paroled at Appomattox, Va as 1st Lt Co. H, 1st CS Engr. On Aug 28, 1912 killed by a horse in Stafford Co, Va.
