  MY 4TH GREAT-GRANDFATHER

  Pvt. Robert Grant b. 1761 in Morrison's Cove, Bedford Co, PA. Revolutionary War.

  Pvt. Robert H Hambleton b. 1765 in Amherst Co, VA. He served in the Military 1777 Revolutionary War. In 1841 he died in Amherst Co, VA.

MY 5TH GREAT-GRANDFATHER

  Pvt. Peter Oglesby Rippetoe b. 1737 in Albemarle Co, VA. He was a soldier in the Revolution, by petition, from Orange Co, VA. In 1823 he died in Nelson Co, VA

MY 6TH GREAT-GRANDFATHER

  Pvt. James Jacobs b. Abt. 1755. Revolutionary War. In 1830 he died in E. Waterford, Mifflin, PA.

  Pvt. Richard Taliaferro b. in 1705 in Essex Co, VA. He served as a Colonel in the English and Colonial Armies and attained the rank of Captain. It is said that he met his death while he and his men were crossing the Potomac in a flat boat. On Jun 10, 1748 he died while crossing the Potomack River.

  Pvt. John Moore Wingfield b. Feb 13, 1741/42 in Hanover Co, VA. He Revolutionary War Soldier. On Feb 07, 1814 he died in Albemarle Co, VA.

MY 4TH GREAT-GRANDUNCLES

  Pvt. John Campbell b. in 1760 in Albemarle Co, VA. Drafted in 1781 (Revolutionary War) Served in Guilford Expedition & Siege of Yorktown.. On Jan 29, 1838 he died in Amherst Co, VA.

MY 5TH GREAT-GRANDUNCLES

  Pvt. Archabald Campbell b. on Apr 18, 1763 in Amherst Co, VA. 1763 18th April; that he entered the service from that county in Jan previous to the taking of CORNWALLIS at York town, under Capt Barnet, their principal officers was Col Dabney; that he marched from Amherst Co directly to Richmond Va, thence to Williamsburg, then to York town, thence to Halfway House about 12 miles below York town where he was discharged without receiving a certificate of the same. On Jul 20, 1857 he died in Greenbrier Co, WV.

  Pvt. Benjamin Coffey* b. on Oct 09, 1747 in Spotsylvania Co, VA. He was a Private in the North Carolina line during the Revolutionary War On Jan 04, 1834 he died in Hawkins Co, TN.

  Pvt. James Edwin Blueford Coffey b. on Jul 04, 1729 in Essex Co, VA. He was a patriot during the Revolutionary War and all of his (5) sons that were old enough served in Colonel Ben Cleveland's regiment of Wilkes County "Bulldogs. In Sep 1786 he died in Wilkes Co, NC.

  Sergt. William Grant b. 1725 in VA. His service to the Revolution appears to have been limited to 71 days active duty as a sergeant in Captian Robert Porter's Company with his sons Alexander and William, Jr. In Jan 1795 he died in Rutherford Co, NC.

  Serg. Benjamin Johnson b. Abt. 1754 in Cumberland Co, VA. During the Revolutionary War, Benjamin Johnson is listed as being a Sergeant in the Virginia Militia, who served directly under George Washington with his Northern forces. He stayed in the Army until the end of the war. One of his neighbors, Stephen Clarke, used to tell everyone how he served with Benjamin. One day during a battle, Stephen was wounded. He said Benjamin came out into the middle of the field, during the fighting, in order to save Stephen. He carried him in his arms, off the field to safety. Stephen said: "He waited on me as I was recuperating. On May 05, 1826 he died in Franklin Co, TN.

  Pvt. Obediah Johnson b. Abt. 1761 in Cumberland Co, VA. Obediah's pension application doesn't make it real clear what unit he was in (other than serving under Captain Ballow, General Gates, Captain Meredith (COL Meridith's Command of Independent Militia Companies?).On Jun 07, 1840 he died in Goochland Co, VA.

  Capt. William D. Rippetoe b. Mar 17, 1747/48 in Albemarle Co, VA. William acted as a Capt in the American forces, and possibly as a personal bodyguard for George Washington during the American Revolution. Family tradition also states that he andJacob Lowdermilk/Laudermilch served as bodyguards for George Washington. This claim seems possible since Washington did have a survey office in Winchester, VA; however, these claims remain to be proven from primary source documents. On Apr 16, 1839 he died in Crocus, Adair Co, KY.

  Capt. John Taliaferro b. on Apr 07, 1733 in Caroline Co, VA. Revolutionary War When the American Revolution broke out he organized a company of Minute Men and was made its captain. On Apr 07, 1821 he died in Wilkinson Co, GA.

  Capt. Moses Wright b. Abt. 1753 in Albemmarle Co, VA. He was a Revolutionary War soldier, enlisting in Capt. James Franklin's company of "foot" 10th Va. Regiment, later in Capt. John Steed's company. In Mar 1830 he died in Amherst Co, VA.

MY 6TH GREAT-GRANDUNCLE

  Pvt. William Chenault b. on Dec 30, 1749 in Albemarle Co, VA. Revolutionary War Enlisted in 1776 in Capt. Henry Terrill's Co. of Col. Josiah Parker's Fifth Va. Regiment of the Continental Line and served two years. Spent the winter of 1777-1778 in the historic camp at Valley Forge. He was with Gen. Washington in his march from Valley Forge in 1778. He was in the battles of Stillwater, Germantown and Brandywine, and at the surrender of Burgoyne at Saratoga. He was discharged at Valley Forge Pa. On Dec 30, 1813 he died in Madison Co, KY.

  Pvt. Nathan Wingfield b. Abt. 1752 in Louisa Co, VA. He was a Revolutionary War soldier.

  Captain. Henry Christian served as a Captain in the American Army in the Revolutionary War and served under Major General Marquis de la Fayette. Henry lived in Amherst Co, VA.

  Pvt. Ambrose Coffey b. on Mar 01, 1763 in Albemarle Co, VA. He was in the Revolutionary War. In Sep 1818 he died in Pulaski Co, Ky.

  Pvt. James Edwin Coffey b. Abt. 1757 in Albemarle Co, VA. Served in Revolutionary War from Private in Capt. People's Company Pennsylvania archives, 5th series, Vol. Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. In Jan 1795 he died in Burke Co, NC.

  Pfc. Jonathan Coleman b. on Oct 09, 1750 in VA. Revolutionary War hero. Fought under General Wayne. On Jan 13, 1825 he died in Burke Co, GA.

  Pfc. Cuthbert Hudson b. 1732 in Prince Edward Co, VA. Revolutionary War. He also served as an artificer in the French and Indian War. He was with General George Washington at Fort Winchester in 1756-1757. On Apr 20, 1801 he died in Elbert Co, GA.

  Pvt. Edward G. Hudson b. on Dec 25, 1756 in Wilkes Co, NC. Revolutionary War. On Apr 04, 1845 Raven Den Spring, Randolph Co, AK.

  Pfc. Jacob Johnston b. Abt. 1775 in VA. He was killed at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in North Carolina during the Revolutionary War Battle there.

  Pfc. Meriwether Lewis b. Aug 18, 1774 in Albemarle Co, VA. Revolutionary War. On Oct 11, 1809 murdered or suicide in a tavern, Natchez Trace, Tenn.

  Colonel. Richard Lewis b. 1765 in Albermarle Co, VA. Revolutionary War. On Oct 23, 1831 he died in Pendleton, SC.

  General. Edward Stevens b. 1744 in Caroline Co, VA. He became a general during the Revolutionary War and took an active part in several battles, being cited by General Washington in his Orders. As a Colonel, he commanded the Culpepper Minute Men in the Revolutionary War. As a General, he led the march of the Virginia Military to join Southern Army on Oct 30, 1780. General Nathaniel Greene and Light-Horse Harry Lee appeared in Halifax County, Virginia. late in 1780 looking for volunteers and provisions. General Greene named General Stevens the leader of the volunteer militia forces which crossed the Dan River and engaged Cornwallis' army at the battle of Guilford Courthouse in Feb. 1781. North Carolina and Virginia militia made up the first and second lines, respectively, and behind them were the hardened troops of the Continental Line. On Aug 17, 1820 he died in Culpeper Co, VA.

  Lieut. Benjamin Taliaferro b. on Jan 04, 1749/50 in Amherst Co, VA. He was appointed a Lieutenant from Amherst County, Virginia in the Revolutionary War. He was made Captain in 1777-1778. He commanded a Company under George Washington during service in New Jersey in 1776, and captured a British Officer with his entire command at the battle of Princeton. At the call of Washington, he volunteered to Join the Southern Army under General Lincoln. He served under Light-Horse Harry Lee and took part in many of his successful exploits. He was taken prisoner at Charlestown, but was paroled. On Sep 03, 1821 he died in Elbert, GA.

  Lieut. Charles Toliver Taliaferro b. Abt. 1765 in Wilkes Co, NC. REVOLUTIONARY WAR SOLDIER. On Mar 19, 1832 he died in Lawrence Co, IN.

  Pfc. Nicholas B. Taliaferro b. on Oct 30, 1757 in Newington, Orange, VA. He served during the Revolutionary War. He enlisted as an Ensign in the 10th Virginia Regiment and served from 25 Nov 1776 to 1 Jan 1783. He was at Valley Forge. He was taken prisoner at Charleston on 12 may 1780 and exchanged in time to serve at Yorktown. Abt. Jan 1812 he died in Augusta, Bracken, KY.

  Pfc. Richard Taliaferro b. in 1756 in Caroline Co, VA. SOLDIER, AMERICAN REVOLUTION, NORTH CAROLINA. MEMBER OF VOLUNTARY RIFLEMEN FROM SURRY COUNTY. He followed his father's example and joined a company of volunteer riflemen from North Carolina. This young man was killed in action at the Battle of Guilford Court House, after the order to retreat was given. He died of a saber thrust from one of Tarleton's dragoons. On Mar 15, 1781 he died at Battle of Guilford Court House.

  Pfc. Absolum Waters b. Abt. 1755 in Rutherford, NC. Revolutionary War.

  Pfc. Moses Waters b. 1761 in King William Co, VA. Applied for Revolutionary War Pension. Service: volunteered in 1777 in Captain Jacob Warwick's Virginia Company. Served 3 months. Aft. 1832 he died in Rutherford, NC.
