Peter J Coffey b. in 1836 in Nelson County, Va. Enlisted on July 10, 1861 at Fairfield, Va at the of 25 years old into the Capt. William Long's Co. " Waynesboro Guards " Co. B, 52nd Va Infantry. On Sept 28, 1861 He transferred out and into VA 2nd Rockbridge Light Artillery. He was AWOL. He was Courtmartialed Fined $24.00. On Jan 15, 1863 on rolls Present. On Feb 15, 1863 Promoted to 3rd Corpl. On April 13, 1863 Absent, sick. On May 15, 1863 on rolls Present. On June 6, 1864 Absent, sick. On Sept 30, 1864 Hospitalized with debility in Richmond, Va. On Nov 15, 1864 on rolls Present. On April 9, 1865 He was Surrendered at Appomattox Court House, Va. In 1902 Receiving pension in Nelson County, Va. On Sept 28, 1925 he died in Rockbridge County, Va.
