1864 - 1865 ![]() Violet Bank - Lee's Headquarters During Petersburg. On the lawn at Violet Bank, Colonial Heights, Virginia, near the plaque marked by an arrow on the 1998 photograph, Lee maintained his heaquarters during the seige of Petersburg.(See Petersburg).
![]() Lee's Headquarters at Appomattox. ![]() Lee's Table at the Surrender. Contrary to some paintings, Lee and Grant sat a different tables during the surrender. Because of the way Lee and his army were treated by Grant, Lee never allowed a negative statement to be made about Grant after the war.
